Protecting your pool over the winter is the most commonly overlooked responsibility. This is the time of year where the most costly damage can occur if a pool owner is not caring for their pool through out the winter.
The obvious worse case scenario is freeze damage. Water levels rising after the cover has been installed is the most common thing we see. Skimmers get destroyed and tile gets crushed, especially glass tile. It's critical to keep your water line consistently below your tile line. If your gizmo fails or a winter plug is moved so the air seal is broke, water will get in your lines underground. When freeze damage occurs underground it can have a significant costs associated with the repairs.
Concrete pool owners can experience excessive scale build up. Scale forms from extended exposure to high pH levels. Scale looks like slight discoloration and feels like coarse grit sand paper, making your pool's surface miserable to walk on. If you already have some scale buildup, winter is the perfect time to treat for it. Most scale removal products require specific ranges for your chemicals which are much easier to achieve in the winter time.
The majority of customers that carry a winter service plan up to a few weeks before they open, experience clear water when the cover is removed. If you have a mesh cover, the chances of seeing clear water opening after May 1 is not as high as air temps rise. We recommend opening by the third week of April and running your winter service plan up to the first or second week of April.
This is a monthly service. We do watch the weather and we strategically place visits to make sure water levels are down after a storm and/or before an extended freeze. This means the day we show up could be 3-5 weeks from your previous visit. This flexibility allows us to care for your pool properly and ensure it is protected throughout the winter.
Yes. Without a signed contract we cannot start your service plan.
No, but if you have them our technicians will use yours before charging you for ours.
If you don't inspect your pool after it is closed, we strongly advise you to have a winter service plan. The most dangerous time of year for your pool is in the winter if not maintained and cared for.
Our first visit typically starts in October with our last one in March. However, if you close early and/or open late, we can add any number of visits. The benefit in this scenario is to ensure your water stays clear and at the proper level.
